Studies in Scarlet: Marriage and Sexuality in the U.S. & U.K., 1815-1914
Images of over 420 separately published trial narratives from the Harvard Law School Library's extensive trial collections. Included are a number of trials of the wealthy and renowned such as an account of the adultery trial of Caroline, Queen Consort of George IV, the sodomy trial of Oscar Wilde, and the trial of Harry Thaw for the murder of Stanford White, the famous architect who was Evelyn Nesbit Thaw's lover. The larger part of the collection, however, consists of the stories of ordinary men and women thrust into the public eye when their marriages and love affairs went wrong or their relationships did not conform to social standards.

Samuel J. May Anti-Slavery Collection
Numbering over 10,000 titles, May's pamphlets and leaflets document the anti-slavery struggle at the local, regional, and national levels. Much of the May Anti-Slavery Collection was considered ephemeral or fugitive, and today many of these pamphlets are scarce. Sermons, position papers, offprints, local Anti-Slavery Society newsletters, poetry anthologies, freedmen's testimonies, broadsides, and Anti-Slavery Fair keepsakes all document the social and political implications of the abolitionist movement.

American National Biography
The American National Biography (ANB) is the successor to The Dictionary of American Biography (DAB)(1926-1937). As such, it is a source of biographical information on Americans of significance, both American and significance broadly defined. The one fast rule for inclusion is that the person must have died before 1996. Seeking broader coverage than the DAB and cognizant of changes in focus in the study of history, many more women, people of color, and religious minorities are included here. Over 6,000 scholars contributed nearly 17,500 biographies of between 750 and 7,500 words. For each a standard format was followed beginning with a chronological description of the person's life and ending with an evaluation of the person's contemporary significance. Importantly, the each article ends with a bibliography of primary and secondary sources about the entry and location of relevant manuscripts. The online version of the ANB can be searched in several ways which make it in some ways more flexible than the print version. It can be searched by entry name, key word, standardized occupation categories, gender, birthplace, date of birth or death and other elements of the entries.
