Mammalian Histology | University of Delaware

This site corresponds to the Mammalian Histology course taught at the University of Delaware. A sizeable collection of color light microscopic images as well as black and white electron microscopic images have been archived and can be accessed by links within this home page. In addition, labeled illustrations and 3-D models used in lecture have been digitized and may be used for study purposes.

Canine Cardiology

Studies have shown that both students and veterinary practitioners can correctly describe the physical features of heart sounds, however, their ability to correctly interpret these sounds is often lacking. This interactive ECG tutorial represents an introduction to clinical electrocardiography. Created by Dr. Yanowitz, Professor of Medicine at the University of Utah, the site contains text, numerous samples of normal and pathologic human ECG recordings as well as quizzes. An added bonus is that the user can download the entire site content (14MB).

Case Studies in Small Animal Cardiovascular Medicine

This site is an excellent learning tool for veterinary students. It is compiled and updated by Mark D. Kittleson, Professor of Cardiology, School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California-Davis. Students can access case studies for a variety of conditions such as pleural fluid, heart murmur and cyanosis. Full case study notes cover the pertinent history of the animal, the physical examination, problems and laboratory work results. There are links to the actual radiographs, ECGs and other tests that were used in the diagnosis. The student can then submit their own diagnoses and this enables them to have access to follow-up information, including therapy if applicable.

Large Animal Cardiology

Published on the Web by the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, this site contains lecture notes and associated materials produced by Dr. Michelle Barton, an associate professor of Internal Medicine in the College's Department of Large Animal Medicine. This resource is used to teach the large animal medicine cardiology course for third year veterinary students, and contains lecture notes, bovine and equine cases, practice ECG's (with answers), and a collection of heart sounds.

Embryo Images Online- Normal and Abnormal Mammalian Development

Developed by Drs. Kathleen K. Sulik and Peter R. Bream Jr., this tutorial uses scanning electron micrographs (SEMs) as the primary resource to teach mammalian embryology. The 3-D like quality of the micrographs coupled with selected line drawings and minimal text allow relatively easy understanding of the complex morphological changes that occur in utero. The SEMs used in this tutorial are from the K.K. Sulik collection. The line drawings have been used with permission from Lippincott Williams & Wilkins and are from the 6th and 7th editions of Langman's Medical Embryology by T.W. Sadler.

Anatomic Atlas for the Canine Lumbosacral Spine

Created by the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, this site provides a sectional atlas of the normal canine lumbosacral spine in 3 planes: transverse, sagittal, and dorsal. Each series was constructed using photographs of frozen gross anatomic sections.

Gross Brain Anatomy

This web site (intended for first-year veterinary students studying CVM 6120, Veterinary Neurobiology, at the University of Minnesota) presents domestic mammalian brain neuroanatomy from a gross anatomical perspective.
