The library holds over 70,000 German language books. The focus is on 19th century works and emphasis is given to German-Americans in Pennsylvania.

Aside from its collection of local newspapers and publications, Temple's Urban Archives has extraordinary holdings for Philadelphia history. It includes a wealth of manuscripts, pamphlets, photographs and organizational records relating to Philadelphia.
