Aporia is dedicated to scholarly debates in nursing and the health sciences. The journal is committed to a pluralistic view of science and to the blurring of boundaries between disciplines. Therefore the editorial team welcomes critical manuscripts in the fields of nursing and the health sciences that include (but not limited to) critique of dominant discourses related to the evidence-based movement, best practice guidelines, knowledge translation, managerialism, nursing and health care practices, ethics, politics of health care and policies, technology, bioethics, biopedagogies, biopolitics etc. Cutting-edge research results in nursing and health-related disciplines are also welcome. Aporia encourages the use of a wide range of epistemologies, philosophies, theoretical perspectives and research methodologies. In the critical analyses of health-related matters, Aporia advocates and embraces a wide range of epistemologies, philosophies and theories including but not limited to: cultural studies, feminism(s), neo-marxism, postmodernism, poststructuralism, postcolonialism and queer studies.
While the public already pays to fund health research, it is inconceivable that the public should be required to pay yet again, to gain access to research results. Subscription to scientific journals can sometimes reach up to thousands of dollars that are paid directly from public funds. Aporia inscribes itself along the margins of this practice by allowing for a definite fracture to take place within the current trends in the field of scientific publication, which constitute the dominant model for the diffusion of knowledge. Aporia is, therefore, a free online journal. Following the footsteps of Deleuze and Guattari, the Aporia team firmly believes that freedom is only made possible in the margin; an autonomous space that is controversial, sometimes polemical and without censorship that does not sacrifice scientific and academic rigor. As such, the objective is to encourage access to scientific knowledge and to give the reader an opportunity to actively position himself/herself regarding the written words in order to give a plurality of meanings to the text.
Therefore, Aporia adheres to the following principles:
- Freedom of speech
- Critical pedagogy
- The role of the specific intellectual
- Recognition of local knowledge(s)
- Critique of dominant discourses
- The right of both the author and the reader to dispose of themselves and their ideas
- The role of the committed citizen

CytoJournal is an Open Access, peer-reviewed, PubMed Indexed, predominantly online journal that publishes cutting edge research articles and information related to all aspects of diagnostic cytopathology, including complementary topics such as molecular cytopathology.
CytoJournal is supported by an elaborate Editorial Board which includes experts with variety of expertise and interests from diverse regions of the globe.
Cytopathology is a well-established diagnostic sub-specialty of pathology. Instead of using surgically removed tissue to arrive at a diagnosis it attempts to identify diagnostic and prognostic information from dispersed cells obtained by non-invasive or minimally invasive techniques. An example, and its greatest success story thus far, is the role it has played in the battle against cervical cancer. Indeed, the Pap smear introduced by George Papanicolaou has contributed immensely to the early diagnosis and significantly decreased mortality of cervical cancer.

What is Diagnostic Pathology?
Diagnostic Pathology is an Open Access, peer-reviewed, online journal that considers research in surgical and clinical pathology, immunology, and biology, with a special focus on cutting-edge approaches in diagnostic pathology and tissue-based therapy.
Diagnostic Pathology covers all aspects of surgical pathology, including classic diagnostic pathology, prognosis-related diagnosis (tumor stages, prognosis markers, such as MIB-percentage, hormone receptors, etc.), and therapy-related findings. The journal will also focus on the technological aspects of pathology, including molecular biology techniques, morphometry aspects (stereology, DNA analysis, syntactic structure analysis), communication aspects (telecommunication, virtual microscopy, virtual pathology institutions, etc.), and electronic education and quality assurance (for example interactive publication, on-line references with automated updating, etc.).
These modern technologies occupy the field of pathology to a large extent, and tissue-based diagnosis is probably the most affected medical discipline. Diagnostic Pathology will provide an integrative journal for molecular pathology (biology) and digital pathology (virtual pathology), creating an open case discussion platform to be used during daily diagnostic work.

The Latin Americanist Research Resources Project, initially a project of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), is a cooperative initiative of North American, Latin American, and Caribbean libraries. Its goal of expanded access to Latin American research resources has three core components: I.Latin American Periodicals Tables of Contents (LAPTOC): provides article titles from the tables of contents over 800 periodicals published in Latin America and the Caribbean. They cover all fields and are searchable by article title keyword, author, journal title, country, and date.
II. Presidential Messages: contains digital images of over 75,000 pages of presidential speeches, including ministerial reports, from the early 19th century to the present from Mexico and Argentina. III. ## Latin American Open Archives Portal (LAOAP): is a portal service providing access to social sciences grey literature produced in Latin America by research institutes, non-governmental organizations, and peripheral agencies. It encompasses working documents, pre-prints, research papers, statistical documents, and other difficult-to-access materials that are not controlled by commercial publishers.
OAIster is a project of the University of Michigan Digital Library Production Services. The goal is to create a collection of freely available, difficult-to-access, academically-oriented digital resources that are easily searchable by anyone.

OJIN: The Online Journal of Issues in Nursing is a peer-reviewed publication that provides a forum for discussion of the issues inherent in current topics of interest to nurses and other health care professionals. The intent of this journal is to present different views on issues that affect nursing research, education, and practice, thus enabling readers to understand the full complexity of a topic. The interactive format of the journal encourages a dynamic dialogue resulting in a comprehensive discussion of the topic, thereby building up the body of nursing knowledge and suggesting policy implications that enhance the health of the public. The journal is indexed by Medline, CINAHL and Scopus.
Readership
OJIN averages 126,000 user sessions (visits) per month, 10,000 page views per day, and 295,000 page views per month.
OJIN's international readership includes nurses employed by thousands of healthcare organizations throughout the world, researchers, and educators and students in a variety of educational programs.
Results of two surveys indicate that 73% of the journal's audience is comprised of nurses employed by in-patient hospital settings, and 68% of the audience is staff nurses. Approximately 44% of OJIN's readers are 41-50 years of age.
Journal Content
Each issue begins with a collection of initial, invited, peer-reviewed articles written by national and international experts in a particular topical area. An advantage of electronic journals over print journals is that unsolicited, voluntary articles can be added over time to the topic, thus updating the topic and increasing our understanding of the topic. All articles, invited and unsolicited, undergo a blind peer-review by at least three of our national and international OJIN Editorial Review Board members who recommend acceptance, resubmission, or rejection of the manuscript. For more information about OJIN articles and publication policies, check out the the Frequently Asked Questions.

The Open Ophthalmology Journal, a peer-reviewed journal, aims to provide the most complete and reliable source of information on current developments in the field. The emphasis will be on publishing quality papers rapidly and freely available to researchers worldwide.
In these web-pages you will find extensively hyper-linked notes and images summarizing the basics of tissue organization in the human body. The organization of this material follows the organization of the SIU School of Medicine Year One Curriculum.
Caveat (source of images): Although the principal subject of these webpages is human histology, many images illustrate specimens from other species. These images are representative of mammalian histology generally (including human), although some details may depart from the human condition. The source for most micrographs is a decades-old collection of commercially-prepared slides (mostly purchased from Turtox); some of these tissue specimens come from non-human mammals.
These notes are an ancillary resource, NOT a substitute for textbooks or for time spent studying real specimens with a microscope. If you use this on-line study aid, please refer to your textbooks and atlases for richer, more detailed information.
- Rhodin's An Atlas of Histology (in the MRC) is an essential resource, since this website does not include electron micrographs.
Also available online, Rhodin's An Atlas of Histology.
This histology resource is divided into four major blocks (see top of this page).
- The INTRO block provides basic essentials for further understanding.
- The remaining three blocks offer material specific to the three curricular units -- CRR, SSB, and ERG.
- The HISTO HOME page provides links to each unit.
- Each unit opens with an index page.
Each index page links to Study Guides for particular topics.
- Highlighted keywords link to definitions, explanations, or examples.
- Extensive cross-links allow access to the same basic information from several different directions.
- Thumbnail images (see example at right) are links to larger, labelled images with additional notes. (To browse images, see the image index.)
- Some limited self-assessment materials are available.
