Materson, Ray, 1954- . Sins and needles : a story of spiritual mending / Ray Materson and Melanie Materson. [1565123409 : ] Chapel Hill, N.C. : Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, 2002.
Call#: Van Pelt Library NK9298.M38 A2 2002

A compelling autobiography that chronicles drug addiction, descent into crime, imprisonment and recovery of Ray Materson.   Materson is a self-taught embroiderer who came to recovery while in prison for drug-related crimes.  Using yarns salvaged from socks and a hoop made from a Tupperware bowl, he began to create small works of needlework folk-art.   His works illustrate the book, and range from rich, beautiful images to sports to graphic depictions of drugs and crime.
