PubMed is the public access version to Medline, the premier database for biomedical literature. PubMedPlus is an enhanced version with links to full-text journals that the Penn Library subscribes to. Once the "Log-in" is completed, any full-text articles to which Penn Libraries subscribe will become available within the PubMed system by clicking on the Penn Text icon. The MEDLINE database is widely recognized as the premier source for bibliographic coverage of biomedical literature. The PubMed version of MEDLINE includes the PREMEDLINE database, which provides very current basic citati on information and abstracts before the full records are prepared and added to MEDLINE. New records are added to PREMEDLINE daily. In addition, for participating journals that are indexed selectively for MEDLINE, PubMed includes all articles from that journal, not just those that are included in MEDLINE. PubMed is also the literature component of the Entrez retrieval system for molecular biology information. For additional information, see the PubMed Overview.

Indexes journals in the sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities. Allows for cited reference searching. Includes Science Citation Index, the Social Science Citation Index, and the Arts & Humanities Citation Index. Search for specific articles by subject, author, journal, and/or author address, as well as for articles that cite a known author or work.

Holdings: Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED)--1945-present, Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI)--1956-present, Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI)--1975-present. Updated weekly.

Accessed via a Mac or Windows client (Commander) which can be downloaded to any campus workstation, Gmelin contains information on approximately 2.2 million inorganic and organometallic substances. Included in this number are coordination compounds, alloys, solid solutions, glasses, ceramics, polymers, and minerals. Records in the database include structures, reactions, and data on over 800 chemical and physical properties such as characterization; chemical properties; reaction details; condensed phase data; electric, magnetic, mechanical, molecular, and optical properties; electrochemistry; phase transition data; quantum chemical calculations; spectroscopy; systemic properties; thermodynamics; transport phenomena; and thermal properties. In addition, the database offers references to the chemical literature published from 1772 to date. The database may be searched using structures and/or text (property information, chemical name, molecular formula).

Accessed via a Mac or Windows client (Commander) which can be downloaded to any campus workstation, Beilstein contains information on approximately 9.6 million organic substances. Records in the database include structures, reactions, and data on over 300 chemical and physical properties such as melting point, boiling point and spectral identification, as well as references to the chemical literature.

The database may be searched using structures, substructures, complete or partial reactions, and/or text (property information, chemical name, molecular formula). The database is searchable for compounds, reactions, properties and literature citations.

Chemical information: bibliographic, compound and reaction information. Accessed via a Mac or Windows client (SciFinder Scholar) which can be downloaded to any campus workstation. The database can only be accessed from University-originating network addresses, with 5 simultaneous users permitted.

SciFinder Scholar can access:

• Bibliographic information from Chemical Abstracts (CAPlus). Over 14 million citations to the literature of chemistry and its applications. The database includes the basic bibliographic information appearing in the print Chemical Abstracts, including abstracts and index terms.
• Compound information from the Registry file. Over 18 million substances indexed by Chemical Abstracts. Can be searched using chemical name, molecular formula and structure.
• Reaction information from the CASREACT file. Over 1.2 million single-step and 1.7 million multi-step reactions. Contains information on reactions of organic substances, including organometallics and biomolecules. Searchable by structure.
