This web-site presents an atlas of nervous tissue images with captions, along with an image catalog. It is intended for student self-study. The web-site may be viewed on-line or downloaded to a local hard drive. Created by T.F. Fletcher and supported by the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine.
This site corresponds to the Mammalian Histology course taught at the University of Delaware. A sizeable collection of color light microscopic images as well as black and white electron microscopic images have been archived and can be accessed by links within this home page. In addition, labeled illustrations and 3-D models used in lecture have been digitized and may be used for study purposes.
LUMEN (Loyola University Medical Education Network) site. Content includes an excellent self-guided tutorial in histology with color images, questions and answers. Easy to navigate with a great table of contents. There is also a link to Zoomified Histology, a virtual histology site where users can examine color slides at high power magnification.
Created by Amanda Fales-Williams, DVM, PhD, Fred R Dee, MD, and Timothy Leaven, MA at the University of Iowa. Content includes interactive "virtual" histology and histopathology slideboxes that users can browse. Useful features include multiple high magnification options, labels, and database search engine.
This tutorial site was created by Dr. Patrick D. Wilson at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the Washington State University. Content includes labeled color histologic images, descriptions, and an interactive "Virtual Microscopy" feature.
For Penn students only: Basic Embryology Review Program (BERP) was developed to supplement the Embryology lecture sessions at the School of Medicine at UPenn. Content includes both annotated images and animations. Pennkey login required. To enter site, login and click on "BERP User Interface".

This University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign College of Medicine course website covers microscopic anatomy, integrating form with function. Course lectures are complemented by on-line laboratories featuring an interactive Internet Atlas of Histology and practice quizzes.
This site was designed for DVM students taking Microscopic Anatomy at the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island. Content includes images taken from the actual slides used in the course, as well as descriptive text and quizzes. The images are not of highest quality and there are no zoom capabilities, but the accompanying notes are very thorough.
Veterinary Histology course website at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Content includes lecture notes (PDF slide shows) and lab tutorials with example slide images.
Histology ImageReview was created with the purpose of providing students with a systematic review of cell and tissue biology and organ histology. It offers several different magnifications of a structure, tissue or organ as if the student were using a microscope in the histology laboratory. In addition, Histology ImageReview contains selected clinical correlations which augment basic histological information. Furthermore, the program provides a mechanism for self-assessment employing image-based questions and learning responses.
The eleventh edition of Basic Histology continues to be a concise, well-illustrated exposition of the basic facts and interpretation of microscopic anatomy. The authors of this text recognize that students of biologic structure share a common goal, namely, to better understand how structure and function are integrated into the molecules, cells, tissues, and organs of a living creature.
