BlacksburgAlert is an emergency notification system that sends coordinated information to all communication devices simultaneously. When not in use for emergency notification, the system allows citizens to subscribe to public information notifications. The Town can then send a single message that is automatically translated for email, telephone, fax, TTY, cellular, pager, PDAs and web pages based on each subscriber’s personal preferences. The ability to communicate with all devices in a single step and to leverage the technology for enhanced community services 24/7 is a unique attribute of BlacksburgAlert.

Access for the Community
Blacksburg's community access television station has come a long way since its start in 1986 when WTOB Channel 2 first hit the airwaves with the debut of the Electronic Bulletin Board. Since then, it has undergone many changes to improve service to the Blacksburg community-changes in its channel, its technology, and its programming.
WTOB Channel 2 can be seen on Comcast's cable system in Blacksburg and on the web through online video.
