To all my friends in far-flung places [sound recording] / Dave Van Ronk
The University of Texas at Arlington went live with the Tomcat WebVoyage interface in August [1]. We did extensive customization of the user interface, with the main goal being improvements in usability. For example, we repurposed one of the default search tabs in order to offer a Google-like one box, one button default search, while retaining (and adding to) the more advanced searches. We also did extensive de-cluttering.
A presentation at the recent Ex Libris Southcentral Users Group meeting illustrates some of the changes we made and provides step-by-step instructions for repurposing a search tab for a Google-like default search [2].
Because we made many more customizations than could be covered in a one-hour presentation, I have made our UTA "opac" skin available as an attachment to the listing of Tomcat sites on EL Commons [3]. This skin is provided purely for informational purposes. Please read the README file that is included.
Our Tomcat interface redesign represents many, many hours of work by members of our WebVoyage Advisory Committee. For our Tomcat customizations, committee members included Joshua Been, Brad Gulliford, Ava Nell Harris, Helen Hough, Derek Reece, Heather Scalf, and myself. Although I manage to grab most of the attention, this has truly been a cooperative effort.
-- Michael

The novel tells the story of a woman and a man, both caught up in the machinations of the Cold War in East and West Germany. It is a story of dedication, to an ideal by the East German policeman who must investigate the murder of an American soldier within the strange no-man's-land which ran the entire length of the East German border with West Germany. His investigation leads him into a tangle of international intrigue including a plot to unite West and East German forces against Soviet control of the world communist movement, and of US involvement in that plot. It also leads him into the personal lives of a high ranking East German security services official and his estranged wife, into the shadowy underworld of GDR officialdom, and into one woman's plot to avenge herself against the men, west or east, capitalist or communist, who dictate the terms under which women must live.

Paramount
Loew's/MGM
Fox
Warner Bros
RKO and the Minors: Universal, Columbia and United Artists.
The second part goes on to cover ‘The Classic Studio Era 1931-51' when the studios were at their apogee producing hundreds of films every year before the threat of declining audiences (because of urbanisation and competition from TV etc). Although the ranking was virtually the same (except that Gomery couples Disney with its distributor RKO and to the minors, and he adds the B-film factories like Republic and Mongram [noted for churning out westerns and serials etc]), this period also saw the sorry demise of RKO- Radio, destroyed by the mismanagement and regrettable taste of the reclusive Howard Hughes who considered the studio to be his play toy.
The last section covers ‘The Modern Hollywood Studio System' and how the studios were taken over by big business including Rupert Murdoch (Twentieth Century Fox) and huge multi-media conglomerates such as Time Warner AOL (Warner Bros) - these businesses even embracing major TV networks. The ranking now being:
Universal
Paramount
Warners
Twentieth Century Fox
Disney
Columbia and Sony Pictures
There are also sections on the Hays Office and the Academy and unions and agents and a chapter on the rise of Lew Wasserman the Hollywood agent who took Universal into the major league of studios and reinvented the studio system.

Donald Pease, "Fear, Rage, and the Mistrials of Representation in The Red Badge of Courage"
A concise definition of naturalism appears in the introduction In that piece,"The Country of the Blue," Eric Sundquist writes,
"Revelling in the extraordinary, the excessive, and the grotesque in order to reveal the immutable bestiality of Man in Nature, naturalism dramatizes the loss of individuality at a physiological level by making a Calvinism without God its determining order and violent death its utopia" (p. 13).

A group called Friends of Old Time Music put on a series of concerts in the early '60s at high-school and college auditoriums in Greenwich Village; a man named Peter Siegel recorded the shows with a fairly cheap microphone; and this, at last, is the result, a boxed set of awesome and concentrated power, demonstrating exactly the lure of the particular American musical traditions that got deep into a generation of musicians like the young Bob Dylan. (The first F.O.T.M. concert occurred a month after his arrival here, and many of the concert performers were among the mysterious characters assembled on one of his treasured possessions, Harry Smith's ''Anthology of American Folk Music.'') Here is the scarily intense Kentucky-mountain tenor Roscoe Holcomb, the blues-influenced white singer Dock Boggs, the elegant ensemble workings of the bluegrass bands led by Bill Monroe and the Stanley Brothers and the purring euphony of Mississippi John Hurt; also, some of the revivalists' own bands, including the New Lost Ramblers and the Greenbriar Boys. With strong, clear sound, it makes you understand what the fuss was all about. (Smithsonian Folkways. Three CDs.)
